The Care Guide: Preserving your Jewelry's Soul

The Care Guide Preserving your Jewelry's Soul

Over time, the gold and silver we wear become a part of our story, moving with us through the world. To ensure your pieces retain their structural integrity and their hand-sculpted soul, a few simple rituals of care are essential. By protecting the "maker’s mark" today, you are ensuring these pieces remain heirlooms for tomorrow.

Rituals of Protection

The most effective care begins with prevention. To protect your jewelry from the elements of daily life:

The Final Touch: Perfumes and lotions should be fully absorbed into the skin before you adorn yourself with your jewelry.

The Elements: Remove your pieces before exercising, swimming, or bathing. While gold is resilient, sweat and treated water can dull the luster of both metal and stone.

The Daily Wash: We recommend removing your rings before washing your hands to prevent soap buildup in the intricate, hand-sculpted textures of the bands.

The Art of Cleaning

Over time, air exposure and natural wear may call for a gentle refresh. Depending on the metal, the approach varies:

Solid Gold: For 14k and 18k pieces, a gentle scrub is all that’s required. Use a soft-bristled brush (like a toothbrush) with a detergent-free soap and warm water. While a half-hour soak is excellent for solid gold bands, we do not recommend soaking any pieces containing stones.

Sterling Silver: Silver possesses a natural inclination to tarnish over time. To restore its brightness, simply rub with a polishing cloth. Some jewelry brands, like fortenna will include an anti-tarnish tab; keep this in your jewelry box to absorb the elements that cause oxidation between wears.

Restoring the Matte Finish

Through the "intimacy" of daily wear, a soft satin-matte finish may naturally become shinier as it burnishes against your skin.

To refresh the matte finish and restore its original soul: Gently rub the surface of your sterling silver or solid gold pieces with a green Scotch-Brite pad. Use light pressure and steady strokes in a single direction. This process revives the texture without altering the hand-sculpted design beneath.
